A Seat at the Table
A Seat at the Table is like half a bookstore. A limited selection and space for books, shared with a community and food seating area for the cafe on the otherside of the space. They have a reasonable selection of new releases and current bestsellers, but they aren’t the sort of store you’ll have a serendipity moment and find something you didn’t know you needed until just when you see a book. They are very liberal and the selection of books represents that. They do host a lot of book and writing events, along with open mike nights and other community events.
They’re ok for locals needing something to ready “right now” but the odds of finding something you want is pretty limited. Based on the number of ways they’re asking people to give them money to stay in business (memberships, non-profit donations, sponsor a shelf, events with drag queens every week), its likely they won’t be in business much longer. If they focused on more books and a broader selection they would be a better store and probably sell more.
5/10 – they have some books, a coffee environment, seating.
